(VEN) - METALEX Vietnam 2018 will take place from October 11-13 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City. The exhibition is the annual converge of manufacturing and supporting industries to discover effective metalworking solutions, product launches, critical business intelligence and collaborative partnerships for business growth in the emerging market of Vietnam. Vietnam Economic News’ My Phung spoke with Suttisak Wilanan, the Deputy Managing Director of the Reed Tradex Co., Ltd, and the organizer of METALEX Vietnam, about their plan for, and direction of the exhibition to further support Vietnam industrialists for deeper regional connectivity.

(VEN) - Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has proposed solutions to ensure the nation’s power supply in light of the delay in implementing various planned coal power projects.

(VEN) - The Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade recently launched a handicraft design contest themed “Handicraft products associated with the development of craft villages and tourism”, to honor the recent achievements of artisans. The contest aims to diversify handicraft products for export and increase their contribution to tourism development. 

The Vietnam-Russia Oil and Gas Joint Venture Vietsovpetro has pumped up more than 230 million tonnes of crude oil and provided 34 billion cubic meters of associated gas since its exploitation of the first tonnes of the resource in Vietnam in June 1986.

The Mekong River Commission (MRC) has recently decided to carry out consultations on the Pak Lay hydropower project in Laos, starting on August 8, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Power drawn from renewable energy is expected to soar in the future, although the country’s capacity to integrate this source of energy into the national power grid is still limited, possibly causing throttling on the network, heard attendants at a seminar recently held in Hanoi.

The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will provide technical assistance for Vietnam to carry out a research project on developing an energy storage system under an agreement signed with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) in Hanoi on September 5.

(VEN) - According to the Domestic Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first half of 2018, consumption of E5 RON92 bio-fuel reached about 1.78 million cu.m, a year-on-year increase of 31.18 percent.

(VEN) - Given Vietnam’s great renewable energy potential, the country could overcome its future power shortages if it creates suitable mechanisms to encourage relevant investment, especially since wind and solar plants can be built quickly.
