(VEN) - An upcoming European Union inspection of illegal fishing by Vietnamese vessels could result in a “red card” with adverse effects on the country’s seafood exports. A delegation of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG-Mare) is scheduled to visit Vietnam from May 25 to June 5, 2020 to inspect implementation of the EC recommendations on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. 

The Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Vietnam (EVFTA) is heading into the final stage before taking effect, opening up a new potential market for Vietnamese businesses.

(VEN) - Vietnam has so far exported six fresh fruit types to the US - mango, lychee, longan, rambutan, star apple and dragon fruit, and it continues negotiations on exporting other vegetables and fruits to this potentially lucrative market.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered a temporarily halt of signing new rice-exporting contracts, the Government Office said in a latest document concerning this matter.

Economic growth across the South-East Asia region is expected to slow to 4.2% in 2020, as the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak continues to weigh on tourism, disrupt regional supply chains and dampen household spending.
