A new feature of this year’s program was a competitive fund raising run in December with the participation of numerous PVFCCo employees and customers. For each valid kilometer, PVFCCo’s Trade Union contributed a pack of 1,000 square sticky rice cakes for lonely elderly people, wounded veterans and revolution contributors on the occasion of the Lunar Year of the Rat.

The employees of PVFCCo and Phu My Fertilizer Plant purchased the rice and meat and made the square sticky rice cakes themselves, carefully ensuring quality and food hygiene. Each batch of 1,000 rice cakes was cooked in the cafeteria of Phu My Fertilizer Plant. On January 11 and 12, PVFCCo’s union organizations including the Trade Union, the Veterans Association, the Youth Union and the Department of Feminine Occupations delivered the square cakes to the needy. Among them were elderly people, people with disabilities and underprivileged children living in the Chanh Phu Hoa Social Protection Center in Binh Duong Province and the Tan Hiep Social Protection Center in Binh Phuoc Province. They also include wounded soldiers, revolution contributors at the Long Dat Care Center for wounded soldiers and national contributors in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province; families of youth volunteers in Phuoc Co Commune of Vung Tau City, and artists at the Ho Chi Minh City Nursing Center for stage artists. In addition to the square cakes, PVFCCo handed out presents such as milk, candies, necessities for Tet and cash with total value of VND120 million.
Tong Xuan Phong, Chairman of PVFCCo’s Trade Union, said, “1,000 Banh Chung cakes and other gifts are not only material supplies but also reflect the heart and gratitude of all employees of PVFCCo as they want to share warmth and happiness with the elderly, poor, underprivileged and disabled people on the threshold of the Lunar New Year holiday.”
