Vietnam is far away from realizing its short and medium term wind power goals, with no ready solution in sight to several impediments, experts say.

(VEN) - Despite the many incentives and other policy tools adopted by the government to boost support industries over the past decade, domestic enterprises have met only10-15 percent of the demand for parts and components for Vietnam’s manufacturers.

Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province Nguyen Duc Chinh early this month signed decisions approving two wind and solar power projects with total investment of over 2.7 trillion VND (US$120 million). 

The construction of Vietnam’s biggest solar power plant with capacity of 168 MWp and total investment of roughly 4.4 trillion VND (US$194 million) commenced in the south central province of Ninh Thuan on June 8.

This success is attributed to the corporation’s efficient use of official development assistance (ODA).
